A mid-1980s original, reimagined for modern life.
Set on the shores of Decatur Island, this home began as a striking—but outdated—residence with stark white interiors and a disconnected layout. The new owners saw its potential and brought in Needham Construction to undertake a full transformation: opening up the interior, reworking the flow, and creating a warm, contemporary retreat that celebrates its stunning setting.
Light, view, and proportion.
Walls were stripped to the studs, layouts reworked, and window openings enlarged to bring the outdoors in. A new rhythm of light and openness runs through the interiors, with broad views of the water and clean-lined finishes replacing the formality of the original structure. The result is both relaxed and refined.

Custom elements—including a built-in desk nook and slatted wood ceiling feature—showcase the collaborative craftsmanship between Needham and their millwork partners. These modern insertions bring warmth and function to the interiors while echoing the home’s island setting in both tone and texture.
